YGB

Momentum Alliance is a place for youth of color who want to:

  • Be in community with youth of color passionate about social justice

  • Explore different social justice topics

  • Take collection action and build collective power

  • Practice leadership and advocacy skills

  • Have connections and understanding with people from different communities and experiences

  • Diversify decision-making in the public, private and nonprofit sectors; alter relations of power; and make systems more equitable

We are a youth of color-led nonprofit. We are 14-30 yo from the board, staff, and participants. We work with people between the ages of 14-30 because oftentimes times people of color are still underrepresented and treated as children in institutions of power. The opportunity to engage from such an age range also allows us to engage with people over a longer period, and build true connections and community.

YGB: Young Gifted and Black

  • The Young Gifted and Black program is an innovative learning series for Black youth aged 14 to 26. We meet twice monthly, blending engaging in-person gatherings with vibrant online sessions. Embracing the popular education model, every participant acts as both educator and learner, empowering youth to co-create their educational journey. Our curriculum centers on marginalized perspectives, focusing on Black history, liberation, and healing in a predominantly white city. Join us in redefining education through empowerment and amplifying Black voices.

HEAL: Honoring Expressions of Art and Liberation

  • Introducing HEAL, an 8-month journey for QTBIPOC youth blending fine arts with social justice. Through in-person workshops in dance, sculpting, painting, and poetry, HEAL creates a sanctuary where queer and trans youth freely express themselves amid political challenges. Online, we explore abolition, intersectionality, and discover fine art using a popular education model. Culminating in a community showcase, HEAL celebrates youth creativity and empowerment. Join us in fostering art, activism, and community for QTBIPOC youth.

Joy Rides

  • Introducing Joy Rides: We offer free, engaging activities designed to bring joy and new adventures to our community. We partner with local organizations and small businesses to co-create expansive experiences that range from snowboarding at Mt Hood, kayaking the Willamette River, and even exploring the local art museum. Our goal is simple: prioritize joy and make local activities accessible to everyone. Follow our Instagram to keep up to date with year-round opportunities!

Summer and Winter Camps

  • Get ready for our dynamic Summer and Winter Camps — multi-day immersive experiences where we dive deep into social justice themes like Abolitionary theory, Black Feminism, Environmental Justice, and beyond! Led by youth of color for youth of color, these camps use popular education to ignite critical thinking and empower change-makers. We blend learning with creativity through hands-on projects like screen printing, painting, and dance — because artistic expression is at the heart of our journey. Plus, we've got you covered with food, transportation, and even a small stipend to make sure every young mind can join in.
